December: Blue TopazPosted by Steffan's Jewelers on Mar 25, 2014 in Birthstones & Gemstones | 0 comments
Blue Topaz was long ago considered a stone that had “cooling properties” meaning that if it were thrown into a pot of boiling water it would immediately cool it down. This belief also led to the idea that it was able to cool down hot tempers. Some healing properties that it was thought to have were: the ability to cure insanity, asthma and weak vision. Blue Topaz was also thought to have magical powers that could make its wearer invisible in a threatening situation. It is the hardest of the silicate materials and comes in a variety of colors such as blue, pale green, red, yellow and pink. If you were to go looking for a place to mine Blue Topaz you would want to travel to Brazil, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Pakistan, China or the United States. Who knows, you might have some waiting to be dug up right in your back yard, but that’s highly unlikely. If you were thinking of giving a gift of Blue Topaz to someone it would symbolize love and fidelity.
